\\ Man... I was re-introduced to some hardcore bands from my high school days recently. Of Mice and Men, A Day to Remember, Emarosa, Asking Alexandria, stuff like that. {Thanks Cam} I forgot how angsty I was, but also how much stuff I was going through. It was a tough time. \\
\\ During that time I was also introduced to a Christian hardcore band called Oh, Sleeper. Their name is derived from Ephesians 5 where Paul is encouraging the church in Ephesus (a city once known for witchcraft, debauchery, sexual immorality) to remain pure and abstain from sexual immorality, crude talking/joking, filthiness. He reminds us to "take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them....anything that becomes visible is light. THEREFORE..."
"Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
"Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil." \\
\\ What an awesome reminder WAKE UP! To RISE UP FROM THE DEAD, take care in our steps and be aware of what time you have left. Christ will shine on you if you follow him. \\
\\ Anyways, Oh, Sleeper. They have an awesome album called "Son of the Morning" that chronicles the struggles and final war between God and Satan.
There's a few songs in there that are super real and gave me pause. One is called "Reveries of Flight". It depicts a person who is seemingly desperate to hear God's voice. He's trying so hard to reach out to God, thinking that God can't hear him.....but he's not listening to the response...
It's like you're deaf to my voice...
...But I'm not!...
But I've been here for every moment...
...And I've fought...
Waiting on your call to move...
...Just call to move...
If you could just make a choice...
...Oh I have...
I know you would find me wanting...
...I just want...
Only to be close to you...
...All of you...
If you would just try and let pry all your grips on worries,
I would come alive in your life and let you find the flight you're longing.
Such a good song. Such a good album. Such a good band. \\
