*Last Day of School Party*
In 2025, after completing The Peaceful Preschool, which focused on introducing one letter a week, we decide to throw an "End of The Year Party"....in March. We completed the curriculum pretty quickly but thoroughly enjoyed the gentle pace.
I had a wonderful time brainstorming our Alphabet Party theme- aka Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
Decorations
I created an alphabet banner by hot gluing felt letters onto banner-shaped felt that I had cut out ahead of time. I hung it where we would be eating along with balloons over the table - a signature party decoration in our house. The girls thoughtfully hung streamers around the house. I ordered a set of alphabet plates and napkins for lunch.
Next I created the signature Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Coconut Tree out of construction paper and packing paper from a recent purchase.
I am not a great baker, but I attempted to make cupcakes. They tasted better than they look. After finding cute clipart letters, I lamented them and taped them to toothpicks for the cupcake toppers.
Activities
- Art Craft - Each child had a large print-out of the first letter of their name, which they decorated with stickers.
- Show and Tell - The weeks leading up to the party, each child was assigned several letters for a fun show and tell game.
- Hide and Seek - I hid all 26 letters around the house on colorful constructive paper. Their job was to collect them all and place them in alphabetical order on a timeline I had displayed.
- Charades - We played alphabet animal charade. Each child had an opportunity to act out an animal for each letter of the alphabet - we helped them brain storm.
- Interactive Story Time - As I read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, I called on a child to take the specific letter(s) – we used the same letters from our previous Hide and Seek Game – and "climb" to the top of the coconut tree.
We had a lovely time celebrating the end of our homeschool curriculum with friends in such a fun way. It took a little forethought, but everything came together quite quickly and easily.
